Jakarta, 6 October 2022. PT Jasa Armada Indonesia Tbk (IDX: IPCM) collaborated with the Seribu Islands Class IV Harbormaster and Port Authority (KSOP) Office and the Class I Tanjung Priok Navigation District on 5 October to carry out coral reef planting in the waters of the Damar Island area Besar, Seribu Islands, which is one of the company’s work environments. This activity is a form of IPCM’s concern and support for the preservation of coral reef ecosystems. A total of 400 coral seedlings were planted consisting of 10 types, namely Acropora Mellepora, Acropora Pormosa, Acropora Cerealis, Acropora Nobilis, Hyascintus, Styllora SP, Pocillopora CP, Cereatopora, Acropora Tenuis and Acropora Diparicata.
The symbolic planting of coral reefs was carried out by the IPCM Directors and their team, the Seribu Islands Class IV KSOP Team, the Class I Tanjung Priok Navigation District Team and involving the Jakarta Madhava Lions Club, a forum for young people who care about the environment. It is hoped that planting coral reefs will increase the environmental sustainability of aquatic biota so that the ecosystem is maintained. Apart from that, it is a form of social responsibility and the company’s commitment to providing a positive impact on the surrounding environment.
On the same occasion, education was also provided and a simulation of planting coral reef seeds guided by the Pondok Karang Association as an official coral reef conservation institution. Coral reef seeds are prepared by grafting or cutting live coral according to procedures and then implanted in cement, salt and paralon media. After that, the coral reef seeds that have been planted in the media are brought to the seabed so that they can grow well and improve the quality of the marine ecosystem in the Seribu Islands. The planting of coral reefs on the seabed was also attended directly by two IPCM divers.
It is hoped that the marine and coastal ecosystem restoration efforts carried out by IPCM involving stakeholders will be a good start and will have a wider positive impact in the future.
